About Us
The charitable group, Wetherby in Bloom, celebrated it's thirtieth anniversary in 2019 by creating a new garden area adjacent to the 'anchor' and 'Cluster of Nuts' car park. Over the years it has made the town of Wetherby a more colourful place with floral arrangements, such as the hanging baskets which are maintained by WIB. The group has also donated a number of features to the town, which has enhanced the area. These include the stone three-tiered planter in the Market Place, the Memorial Rose Sculpture overlooking Bridgefoot, the Memorial Arch in the Garden of Rest and several other planters and benches around the town.
Wetherby's aspirations to become one of the best floral towns in Britain began with small beginnings in 1989 when an entry was made in the regional Yorkshire in Bloom competition. Since that tentative entry was made Wetherby has become an acknowledged champion of floral display in Yorkshire, the United Kingdom and Europe, having won the best Town category of Britain in Bloom in 1998, been awarded a silver gilt in the same competition in 2002 and 2010, a coveted European Entente Florale Gold award in 1999 and a gold award in the 2005 International Communities in Bloom competition.
The driving force behind this achievement has been the volunteer group known as Wetherby in Bloom.
Following the many successes over the years, in 2011 the Wetherby in Bloom Committee made the decision not to enter further "In Bloom" competitions. They pledged to continue providing and maintaining the high standard of floral displays which enhance Wetherby.

Britain In Bloom
Britain in Bloom helps transform communities throughout the country. The RHS "Greening Grey Britain" reveals how cities, towns and villages have benefited. Over the years Wetherby has played an active part in Britain and Yorkshire in Bloom which has helped to create an environment that attracts many visitors each year.
